Carl Schmalz

Goat Island LighthouseCarl Schmalz will "Consider Composition" at a weekend workshop featuring watercolor demonstrations, critiques and discussion. Professor Schmalz studied with and taught watercolor for Eliot O’Hara. He completed his Ph.D. in Art History while teaching and administering the Museum at Bowdoin College. From 1962 until 1995 he taught at Amherst College, and from 1969 to 1989 he ran his own summer workshops in Kennebunkport, Maine. He has also taught numerous workshops in the U.S., Canada and Bermuda. Currently he teaches at the Heartwood College of Art in Kennebunk, Maine. A member of the Watercolor U.S.A. Honor Society, he has exhibited and lectured widely, and has served as entry juror and prize judge over much of the U.S. The author of "Watercolor Lessons" from Eliot O’Hara and "Finding and Improving Your Painting Style", he is represented by galleries in Kennebunkport, Maine and Boston, Massachusetts.
