Now that the last of the snow has melted and the crocuses are starting to peak up from the earth, we have been taking advantage of this beautiful weather preparing Rock Gardens for the summer season. There is always much work to do after the winter, raking, trimming, repairing lawns, gardening and painting. And after the water is turned on in early May, our housekeeping staff will come in to open the cottages, a month long process, leading up to our opening on June 15th.
Rock Gardens will be entering its 97th season this year, and we have worked hard to maintain its timeless quality while upgrading the cottages to new and improved standards. We have always been aware of our place in this environment, recycling, composting, and buying local for years, while maintaining a get-a-way from it all with no phones (cell phones don’t really work down here) or televisions in the cottages. Guest can spend the week here, and never pick up their car keys if they choose.
We are looking forward to welcoming back many of the families that have been coming for years, and to welcoming some new family reunion groups for this summer. Our art workshops have had very good response, so we expect a busy season ahead. So please join us here on the Maine coast for beautiful views, fresh air, salt water, colorful gardens, good food, and good company.
