David Kapp

Route 1 and Bath Bridge at NightWe will continue our summer series with David Kapp's new workshop “Painting and Drawing the Contemporary Landscape.” David Kapp was born in New York City in 1953. He received his BFA from Windham College in Vermont and his MFA from Queens College in New York. His work can be found in public and private collections throughout the U.S. including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; The Museum of the City, New York; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas; Portland Art Museum, Portland, Oregon and the Colby College Museum of Art, Waterville, Maine to name a few. He has had solo exhibitions at the Tibor de Nagy Gallery in New York City, the Ruth Bachofner Gallery in Santa Monica, California, and the Galerie Michel Vidal in Paris, France, most recently. He has taught at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vermont; Brandeis University; Fordham University and Haverford College. He has received awards from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the Rosenthal Foundation and the CAPS Fellowship in Painting. His work has been written about in publications such as The New York Times, The New York Observer, Art News and Art in America. David divides his time between New York City and Friendship, Maine.

This workshop will begin Saturday evening and be comprised of four days of painting and drawing outside. There will be a morning and an evening session each day. The evening sessions, for painting nocturnes, will take place in downtown Bath, Maine. We will explore unconventional aspects of the contemporary landscape while focusing on pictorial movement in space and use of light and contrast.

Please note this workshop will run from Saturday evening through Thursday morning to accommodate the Labor Day weekend.
